Mental Health Week 2011 - May 1st-7th

Between May 1st and May 7th we are celebrating the 60th Anniversary of Mental Health Week. During this important week we are reinforcing the fact that every Canadian has the potential to live an optimal, healthy life that includes good mental health.

CMHA Niagara will be updating our website and Facebook page closer to Mental Health Week to inform you of upcoming events in the region. In the meantime, if you would like some information surrounding: Mental Health, Stress for Kids, Resiliency, and Stigma please feel free to help yourselves to our fact sheets attached below (PDF <500KB).

There is help to fight mental health issues, says Thorold man - By Grant LaFleche, Standard Staff

The thoughts locked in his mind seemed like they were running on a perpetual loop. No matter how Madhav Khurana tried, he couldn't get them out of his head. The more he thought about them, the more they tighened their grip and the more frustrated he became until he could think of nothing else.

'This is my calling', Man with schizophrenia hopes to inspire others who develop mental disorder - by Paul Forsyth, Niagara This Week

Among the favourite paintings created by Kyle Reynolds is one entitled ‘Invisibly crippled.’
It’s an image of man with the top of his head opened, with a wheelchair sitting in the cavity.
Dark, to be sure. But for the St. Catharines man, the painting is the blending of two of the things that have shaped his life for almost 10 years: mental illness and a love of art.

11:00 - Walk of Hope - Registration

12:00 - Walk of Hope commences at Market Square; 10-15 minute walk; all can attend, pledges are available but not necessary; pledges available for pick up at both CMHA St. Catharines locations. Free T shirts for those with pledges
